RCG NSW - RESPONSIBLE CONDUCT OF GAMBLING

Centre for Training has current approval from Liquor & Gaming NSW to deliver

RSA and RCG training in NSW.

As of 1 February 2023, Centre for Training began delivering the NEW NSW RCG - Responsible Conduct of Gaming course.

This is the Standard NSW RGC course and is required for anyone working in a Gaming area of a NSW Club or Hotel.

The cost of your RCG NSW Liquor & Gaming interim certificate and NSW Photo competency card are included in your enrolment fee.

The NEW RCG - Responsible Conduct of Gambling, does not include a nationally recognised unit of competency.

Content of NEW NSW RCG Standard course

Different types of gambling in NSW and Australia.

How gambling problems develop, and the types of harm it leads to for the person, their family, and the community.

Gaming machine laws you need to know about to ensure a safe, responsible gambling environment.

A new approach to identify, assist, report and monitor patrons when you notice warning signs of problem gambling.

Putting what you have learned into practice.

Entry requirements:

There are no specified entry requirements for the Standard RCG training program, however you must be 18 years of age to work in a licensed gaming venue.

Assessment requirements:

  • On successful completion of your RCG class, L&GNSW will send you the link and log-in details to complete the mandatory L&GNSW Standard RCG assessment (online).

The online assessment comprises of 30 multiple choice, True/False and scenario-based questions. You need to score 100% to pass and have unlimited attempts to pass. The assessment is expected to take 20 minutes to complete.

  • On passing the assessment L&GNSW will email you an RCG interim certificate.

  • The interim certificate is valid for 90 days and allows you to work immediately.

  • If you wish to pre-read the NSW Liquor & Gaming  RCG Student material CLICK here to access the current Liquor & Gaming materials.

What to bring:

  • One form of photo identification. Ideally, an Australian driver’s licence or your passport.
  • Blue or black pen and note paper
  • Please arrive 10-minutes before the scheduled start time.
  • A mask for your own & others protection to wear in the training room.
  • Ensure you read our Terms and conditions prior to enrolling.
  • PLEASE NOTE: Centre for Training does not currently offer the Advanced Responsible Conduct of Gaming (ARCG) course.
  • The Advanced RCG (ARCG) course is recommended for you if you are a gambling floor manager or supervisor in a hotel or club, hotel licensee, or a club secretary.  This training helps to better prepare and support you in meeting your greater gambling harm minimisation responsibilities and obligations under the NSW Gaming Laws
  • Detailed information is available on the NSW Government Gamble Aware website - CLICK this link for more information

We advise anyone looking for work in a venue that has gaming machines to do both the RSA & RCG training,

as most Club & Hotel employers, would choose someone who has both RSA & RCG over someone who only has the RSA.

See following information from the NSW Government website: or click on this link to go to NSW L&G website

RCG training is mandatory if your work duties involve gaming machines.

RCG training applies to anyone in the following gaming related roles:

  • licensees of a full hotel licence
  • secretaries of a registered club
  • staff with gaming machine duties
  • staff who pay out winnings
  • staff who patrol or serve in the gaming machine area.

Gaming machines are only allowed in two types of licensed venues in NSW : registered clubs and full hotels.

Interim certificates

On successful completion of your RCG course, L&GNSW will send you the link and log-in details to complete the mandatory L&GNSW online RCG assessment.

The online assessment comprises of 30 multiple choice, True/False and scenario-based questions. You need to score 100% to pass and have unlimited attempts to pass. The assessment is expected to take 20 minutes to complete.

On passing the assessment L&GNSW will email you an RCG interim certificate. The interim certificate is valid for 90 days and allows you to work immediately.

Competency cards

To obtain a NSW RCG competency card, present your interim certificate to a Service NSW Centre and complete a 100 point identification check. Service NSW will send your card to your nominated address via mail. Please allow up to one month for its delivery.

If you already have a NSW RSA competency card, on completion of your RCG course you will automatically be sent a new card with your updated competencies.

Note: in NSW all competencies must expire on the same date, calculated five years from the first competency gained e.g. if your RSA competency expires in June 2023, even if you gain your RCG competency in June 2020 both competencies will still have an expiration date of June 2023. This ensures all your competencies are current and expire on the same date.

Digital Competency Cards

You can obtain a digital competency card via the Service NSW app. The app is available via download from iTunes® or the Google Play™ store. Once you have the app, you’ll need your competency card holder number to add your competency.

Visit Service NSW to learn more about the NSW Digital Competency card.

If you have done your RSA recently, it is a good idea to go as soon as possible, with both your RSA & RCG interim certificates to a participating Service NSW Service Centre to apply for a photo competency card which will then be issued with both your RSA & RCG competencies included.

Important: You will still be able to apply for the photo competency card using the interim certificate even if it has passed its validity date, but you will not be able to work in any role requiring it, until the competency card is obtained.

  • You will need to present the interim certificate and 100 points of identification at a NSW Service Centre or RMS Office where you will be able to order your photo competency card.
You can look up your closest location with the Service NSW centre locator.
The fee for the photo-card is included in your training fee, therefore you will have nothing further to pay
  • Your card is valid for five years and serves as proof that you have completed the necessary course to work in a licensed gaming venue.

You do not need to complete a new RCG class to renew your RCG competency -if it has not expired by more than 28 days

for more information go to the NSW Liquor & Gaming website or click here

Old style paper certificates

Old style paper certificates are any RSA or RCG certificate issued before 22 August 2011, have all now expired, although they do not have an expiry date on them.

Expiry of Photo competency cards

Photo competency cards expire 5 years after the completion of the first course you completed. If other courses are completed at a later date, the competency class can be added to the card and the card can be reissued, but the expiry date will remain the same as the first course you completed.

Example: You complete an RSA course on 1 August 2015, and obtain a photo competency card. The expiry date will be 1 August 2020. Later you want to work in a Hotel  or Club and your duties will involve gaming machines (pokies), so you complete an RCG course on 30 June 2019. You will need to complete an Additional Competency Endorsement Form (form CC0570) to get a new photo competency card mailed to you. The new card will show that you have both RSA and RCG competency, however the expiry date will still be 1 August 2020 - 5 years after the date you completed the RSA course, not when you completed the RCG course.

Your L&GNSW online RCG assessment online

On successful completion of your RCG training class, L&GNSW will send you the link and log-in details to complete the mandatory L&GNSW online RCG assessment. Please allow up to 24hours for this link to come through. If you have not received your link within this time,  please email us at info@centrefortraining.com.au or call on 02 9499 3737 to check for any reason it has not been received.

The online assessment comprises of 30 multiple choice, True/False and scenario-based questions. You need to score 100% to pass and have unlimited attempts to pass. The assessment is expected to take 20 minutes to complete.

Your L&GNSW RCG interim certificate

On passing the assessment L&GNSW will email you an RCG interim certificate. The interim certificate is valid for 90 days and allows you to work immediately.

If you are working with an interim certificate, you must be able to provide it for inspection upon request by a police officer or Liquor and Gaming inspector.

Your L&GNSW photo competency card

Full instructions to obtain your Photo competency card are supplied on the back of the interim certificate, including how to obtain a Digital Photo Competency card.

Photo competency cards are plastic cards similar to a NSW driver licence.

The front of the card will display your photo, name, the expiry date, and the card number.

It will also indicate which competency certification(s) you have obtained. On the front, this will be listed with one or more letters after the word "Class".

The explanation for these letters is shown on the back of the card.

  • A = Responsible Service of Alcohol
  • G = Responsible Conduct of Gambling
  • P = Privacy training

Your RCG competency can be added to an RSA photo competency card or be a stand-alone card if you will not perform duties requiring an RSA.

Privacy training can only be completed if you already have a photo competency card with RSA competency. (You may also have RCG competency, but RSA is a minimum requirement)

If you are working with a photo competency card, you must be able to provide it for inspection upon request by a police officer or NSWL&G inspector - however you don't have to personally carry the card - it is ok to have the card on site (preferably in a secure place) so it can obtained immediately if requested.

Penalties apply for failing to produce the card.

Anna B - Chatswood- Food Safety Level 1 Health

Our staff found the training session interesting, informative and easy to sit through. Our trainer was well organised and very professional.

It was great to have someone who has worked in the food industry delivering the training to the staff - offering years of personal experience whilst showcasing and supporting current legislative laws and regulations.

Julia W - Marrickville- Food Safety Supervisor online

I call it "PJ training" because most of it I completed in my pyjamas. Being a shift worker, it was very easy to access and convenient because I could start and stop anytime, to fit around my work and family commitments. I could also replay sections if it didn't sink in the first time.  Thank you so much! Warm regards, Julia

Rick S - Potts Point- FSS online

I have worked as a Chef for more than 20 years - including Italy, France and London - I thought I knew all there was to know about Food Safety, until I did this online FSS training, which was very comprehensive and informative, it makes so much sense and a lot has changed since I started in the industry - I actually wasn't looking forward to it, but I am so glad I have had this excellent update and the support when I had a couple of queries, was prompt and very professional  - Rick S - Executive Chef

Helen G - East Albury

All the best to you and yours.

Excellent course, very informative and would not hesitate to recommend this online course to colleagues. We have already started to implement and place greater focus on the learning from the course. I have done normally face to face training and was a bit skeptical of the online training courses in general, but this training course has changed my mind towards online training courses because it was very informative and easy to follow.

Regards, Danny

Hi and thankyou for your quick response to my assessment.

I found it fun to do and it has been a real education which has also affected the way I run my kitchen at home.

So many thanks to all at CFT for your patience, very happy with your prompt service.

Peter C - Pyrmont- Food Safety Supervisor training

Just a bit of feedback :

I thought the course would be "jumping through the hoops".

To the contrary, I found it challenging, informative and interesting (despite being in the industry a LONG time).

Oh, and all my dealings with CFT were smooth and professional.

Adrian T - Cooranbong

As an accountant by trade, I actually enjoyed working through this online Food Safety Supervisor course... The information is well delivered.

Stuart K - Sth Coogee

You're a superstar mate. Thanks for all your help

Androulla A - Horningsea Park

I have learnt so much doing this course.. I believe everyone who wants to own or have a business should do this course...

Thankyou!

Kevin G - Double Bay

Many thanks for your training and advice.

I have just finished a meeting with our head Chef and we have taken all on board. We have already initiated a schedule and action plan for the FSS and venue.

I must say it was a great 'refresher' and the stringent standards that must be met and adhered to.

I would like to add from the 'get go' that initial contact to your office and staff has been professional and helpful on all levels, it is a daunting requirement and was made easier by the smooth running of your office.

Roxanna J - Blayney

Thanks so much, I really enjoyed learning through this online Foo Safety Supervisor course.

Harvey J - Wollongong

Being in the kitchen all day, then sitting in a classroom at night or on my day off wasn't for me. I would rather use this time to catch up with friends or a round of golf! I was able to complete this training at a time to suit me and I didn't need any fancy equipment or super computer skills, it was very easy to understand and follow. Thanks Centre for Training Guys...Harvey
